Food City Community Garden
What is food city?
Food City is a food forest turned community garden in the East Deutschtown/Spring Garden neighborhood. The garden is home to about 30 garden beds that are rented by individual gardeners each summer. Gardeners can rent a plot for $15 a season. If rent is a barrier to participating, gardeners can pick up additional volunteer hours in lieu of payment.
One of the largest community gardens in the city, features include:
A green space where anyone can admire the beauty of nature
A place where your membership gives you free access to a garden shed full of tools, compost, mulch, and water
A learning center with free community education
A community space where each member plants and harvests their own plot
A Free Library location where community members can borrow and donate books, plant seeds, and art supplies
A kid-friendly place where families can plant plots together
An inclusive space with accessible plots available
